March 4-6, 2011 – Sayulita

A portion of the proceeds raised from the Punta Sayulita Longboard & SUP Classic were put to work earlier this week as the Punta Sayulita Foundation sponsored an intensive 3-day International Surfing Association (ISA) Level 1 Coaching Clinic. Twenty-three people attended the course and all received their level 1 certification. Congratulations!

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the World Governing Authority for Surfing. It was originally founded as the International Surfing Federation in 1964 and has been running Open Division World Championships since 1964, Junior World Championships since 1980, and Masters World Championships since 2007. The ISA will hold the first Stand Up Paddle (SUP) World Championship in 2011. The ISA Coaching & Instructing Program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities of those individuals who wish to obtain a scientific approach to the coaching and instructing of surfing.
The objectives of the ISA Coaching & Instructing Program:
- To establish an international system of Coaching and Instructing Courses, improving the safety and efficacy of surf instruction around the world.
- To further develop, through educational programs, a body of knowledge on which Coaches and Instructors may draw.
- To provide Coaches and Instructors with employment opportunities, encouragement and support.
- To advance surf coaching and instructing as a globally standardized and highly professional activity with stringent requirements.
