The Classic Honorary Ambassadors
As with last year’s Classic, the honorary Ambassadors for the Classic will be internationally recognized pro surfer, James Pribram (Eco Warrior Project) from the United States and local Sayulita surfer and last year’s Punta Sayulita Classic Longboard Champion and former Mexican National Longboard Champion, Patricio Gonzalez.
About James Pribram
James Pribram has been a professional surfer for nearly two decades and through his achieved efforts placed himself as a well respected Ocean environmentalist and published writer. His written work has been placed in several media outlets such as the LA Times, Coastline Pilot, Surfing Magazine, Transworld Surf, The Surfers Journal, and numerous other publications worldwide.
James dedication to the environment was recently awarded as he became the recipient of the highly regarded John Kelly Award, as well as being appointed Spokesperson for the International Year of the Reef.
He continues his mission through the given name “Eco Warrior”. The Eco Warrior project is led by James to raise awareness of environmental issues around the world, such as improving water quality, protecting endangered reefs and wildlife, while being documented by multi-faceted public platforms.
James main goal is to continue broadcasting his experiences to a larger audience in the hopes of reaching like-minded, eco-friendly people and enhancing life on earth for everyone.
James is a frequent visitor of Sayulita and on several of his visits James speaks with students of the Costa Verde International School in Sayulita to talk about the importance of preserving the world’s oceans and beaches.
About Patricio “Ticho” Gonzalez
Patricio Gonzalez Hernandez was born in the Village of Sayulita, Nayarit in 1978 where he began surfing at the age of 10 on his 11 foot long board, learning from great surf teachers such as Jesus “Chuy” Venegas and Jose Manuel Cano.
Last year’s Men’s Longboard Punta Sayulita Classic champion, Ticho was also Mexico’s National Longboard Champion in 2009 and was runner-up in 2005 and 2006. Ticho also placed 2nd in the rankings for his category in the 2007 and 2008 Latin American Surf Circuit (ALAS) which includes professionals throughout Central and South America.
Patricio currently resides in Sayulita and manages the Sayulita Surf School.
